Installation Note
Note: Brake motors may have slightly increased dimensions compared to standard motors due to the integrated brake assembly. Please verify available installation space before ordering.
How the Brake System Works
The T3AB brake motor uses an integrated electromagnetic braking system:
- When the motor is energised → brake is released
- When power is removed → brake engages automatically
The brake is powered via an internal rectifier, which converts a single-phase 230Vac supply into approximately 205Vdc, used to operate the brake coil.
👉 This ensures:
- fast stopping
- secure load holding
- improved operational safety
Applications
Brake motors are ideal for applications requiring controlled stopping or load holding, including:
- Conveyors
- Packaging machinery
- Automation systems
- Machine tools
- Material handling equipment
IEC Frame Sizes Explained
Motor frame sizes are standardised under International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) guidelines, ensuring compatibility across manufacturers.
The frame size defines key mounting dimensions such as:
- Shaft height
- Mounting hole positions
- Shaft diameter
This allows motors with the same IEC frame size to be interchangeable without mechanical modification.
Motor Mounting Configurations
✔ B3 – Foot Mount (Standard)
Base-mounted motor, most common configuration
✔ B34 – Foot & Face Mount
Provides flexible installation options
✔ B35 – Foot & Flange Mount
Suitable for rigid or direct-coupled installations
Pole Configuration Explained
- 2 Pole Motors → ~3000 RPM (high speed)
- 4 Pole Motors → ~1500 RPM (general use)
- 6 Pole Motors → ~1000 RPM (higher torque, lower speed)
Efficiency Classes
Electric motors are classified under International Electrotechnical Commission efficiency standards:
- IE2 – High Efficiency
Improved energy performance for general industrial use - IE3 – Premium Efficiency
Lower energy consumption and ideal for continuous operation
Both provide reliable performance depending on application requirements.
When do you need a brake motor?
Brake motors are used when controlled stopping or load holding is required that a standard motor cannot provide.
You typically need a brake motor when your application requires:
✔ Fast and controlled stopping of a load
✔ Holding a load in position when power is off
✔ Improved safety in vertical or lifting applications
✔ Reduced run-on or coasting after shutdown
Common applications include conveyors, packaging machinery, and automation systems.
